Using the publication.

These guidelines explain reading, sharing, and contacting The Salty Rag.

Publication: The Salty Rag.

Reading and sharing.

You may link to public pages and use material with permission or as otherwise allowed by applicable law. When sharing, identify the publication and link to the original where practical. Do not remove a label in a way that misrepresents advertising, opinion, a correction, or a design sample as something else.

For full-article republication, commercial reuse, image licensing, merchandise, or co-branding, contact the relevant rights holder before proceeding unless your use is otherwise legally permitted. Not all images or materials on a publication are owned by the publisher.

Nothing here is intended to eliminate fair use or other rights provided by law. Fair use is context-dependent, not a fixed word count or percentage.

Background: U.S. Copyright Office Fair Use Index.

Messages, tips, and pitches.

Send information you are entitled to share, and distinguish evidence from opinion or suspicion. Do not submit malware, impersonate another person, or include unnecessary sensitive personal information. Use the tips guidance before approaching the publication with high-risk material.

Preparing, downloading, or copying a draft does not deliver it. Opening an email draft requires you to send it through your own mail application. A routine message does not, by itself, create a confidential relationship, an agreement to protect a source, an employment relationship, or a paid commission.

Submitting a pitch does not transfer all rights in your work. Any commissioned writing, photography, licensing, payment, or broader reuse should be covered by a separate written agreement. The publication should confirm intended publication permissions rather than treating an ordinary inquiry as unlimited consent.

Responsible use of the site.

Do not intentionally interfere with the availability or security of the website, attempt unauthorized access, distribute malicious code, or use the publication’s identity to falsely imply endorsement or affiliation. Ordinary reading, linking, criticism, and legitimate reporting about the publication are not prohibited by this policy.

The site has no public comment system, user account service, paid checkout, or document-upload channel. Any future service will need terms appropriate to its actual features.

Advertising and other agreements.

An advertising inquiry is not a reservation or sale. Placement, price, dates, approval, reporting, payment, cancellation, and other commercial terms require a separate written agreement. Paid relationships do not purchase editorial control.

Email subscriptions are not open. The site does not process card details or create a paid membership. A future paid offer would need a separate, clear description of its price and terms.

Availability, outside links, and reliance.

The publisher should work to keep its pages accurate and useful, but reporting can develop and technical interruptions can occur. Check dates, linked records, and corrections when relying on a story. Journalism is not a substitute for advice tailored to a legal, medical, financial, or emergency situation.

Links may point to independent operators whose content or practices can change. A link is not, by itself, an endorsement of everything on the linked site.

Questions and changes.

For a factual issue, use Corrections. For reuse, privacy, or service questions, use Contact. Material changes to adopted terms should be dated and clearly described. The current revision date appears above.
